Today's news:

1. TrendForce: In the first quarter, the contract price of mainstream products in the DRAM industry rose, with an increase larger than that in the fourth quarter of 2023. This drove revenue to increase by 5.1% month-on-month to US$18.35 billion, continuing the quarterly growth trend for most companies. In terms of shipment performance, the three major original manufacturers all experienced a quarterly decline. However, in terms of average selling price, these manufacturers continued the trend of rising contract prices from the fourth quarter of 2023.

2. Counterpoint: Shipments of foldable smartphone panels increased by 46% year-on-year in the first quarter. Huawei dominated panel procurement with a historically high 55% share, ranking first for the second consecutive quarter. It is expected that shipments of foldable smartphone panels in the second quarter will increase by 113% year-on-year to a record 9.25 million units.

3. Jon Peddie Research: Global shipments of discrete graphics cards (AIB graphics cards) fell month-on-month in the first quarter, from 9.5 million units in the previous quarter to 8.7 million units. However, there was a 39% year-on-year increase. Nvidia's market share climbed to 88%, while AMD's graphics card share fell to 12%, and Intel's graphics card share was less than 1%.

4. As high temperatures sweep across the country recently, heat-relief and heat-prevention products such as air conditioners and air circulation fans have entered a peak sales period. Data from e-commerce platforms show that in the past week, the search volume for refrigeration appliances such as fans and air conditioners has increased threefold compared with last week. On June 11, when temperatures were high in many parts of the country, sales of fans and air conditioners from home appliance merchants on the platform increased by 140% and 300% compared with last week.

5. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI: In the past six months or so, OpenAI's annualized revenue has more than doubled to $3.4 billion. This figure was $1.6 billion at the end of 2023.

6. Since late April, ship detours, suspensions, port congestion, and the recovery of freight demand, combined with the peak season and rush shipments, have driven up container shipping rates. Container shipping companies, multi-purpose shipping companies, freight forwarding companies, and container companies in the shipping industry chain may benefit. International container shipping and multi-purpose ship shipping on European and American routes are greatly affected by supply and demand, causing freight rates to rise sharply. These increases may extend to near-sea and domestic trade routes, with container cargo potentially overflowing to multi-purpose ships, further driving up freight rates. Container freight forwarding companies benefit from price increases, and under the integrated logistics service model, the profit per box is expected to increase. Container manufacturing benefits from the shortage of containers, with production expected to double and prices to rebound in 2024.

7. The Moscow Exchange announced on the 12th that due to sanctions, the exchange will no longer use the US dollar and the euro for foreign exchange and precious metal transactions from the 13th.

8. Singapore Port is congested, and container shipping prices have risen. Delays caused by the Red Sea detour and the recent surge in container throughput have severely congested several ports worldwide, including Singapore, Shanghai, Qingdao, Port Klang, and Colombo. Among them, Singapore Port is particularly crowded, with the highest number of containers waiting to berth reaching 480,600 standard containers. Port congestion has caused shipping prices to rise again. Major airlines have announced the mid-June General Rate Increase (GRI) and the peak season surcharge (PSS) increase. Congestion in Mediterranean and Asian ports has led to a continued deterioration in on-time rates and further concerns about the supply of container shipping capacity. Starting two weeks before the European Cup, the popularity of bookings for air tickets, hotels, and vacation products to Germany soared across the board. The "events" boosting the tourism economy reappeared, with the most significant increases in products coming from the host cities of the European Cup.

9. UBS: Artificial intelligence has the potential to become one of the most far-reaching innovations and the largest investment opportunities in human history. It is estimated that the value created by AI will reach US$1.16 trillion by 2027. Many investors may still be underweight overall. Given the size of some of the leading AI companies, investors may need to consider weights from the perspective of national stock markets rather than individual stocks.

Today's Insights: Knowing how to "trouble" others is the real high emotional intelligence

1. Learning to ask for help is a kind of wisdom

When you need help from others, have you ever had such concerns: embarrassed to trouble others, difficult to ask for help from others, always worried about being rejected? In fact, truly smart people dare to ask for help and are good at "troubling" others. In society, no one is an "island". We cannot solve all the problems in life by our own ability, and the problems you encounter may just happen to have solutions from others. When you can't handle it, you might as well trouble others. Troubling others is not laziness but knowing how to seek help in areas you are not good at. Daring to ask for help is itself a positive and open attitude, which means that you are willing to open your heart and learn from others. Perhaps many opportunities are hidden behind every "trouble".

2. Good feelings are "troubled" by each other

Someone asked online: How can I make more good friends? A highly praised answer said: If you want to make friendships last, then you have to "trouble" others to help you, because good feelings are "troubled" by each other. Many people dare not trouble others because they are worried that they will be disliked. In fact, in the process of asking for help, the helper is not simply asking for something from others, but giving trust and gratitude; the helper is not simply giving, he has gained dignity and interpersonal trust.

Sometimes, daring to trouble others will not only not become a burden to the other party but will enhance the other party's sense of value and make the other party feel more favorable towards you. The close connection between people is built on the willingness to trouble each other. When a person begins to trouble you and rely on you with peace of mind, it actually means that he begins to need and like you in his heart. A good relationship is to trouble each other and need each other.

3. Knowing how to "trouble" others, you must grasp the degree.

Knowing how to "trouble" others does not mean "troubling" others casually. We can boldly ask for help, but it does not mean that others have the obligation to help you. When asking others for help, there needs to be a scale and boundary, and don't take the other party's help for granted. When asking for help, first seek solutions yourself. Don't ask for trivial matters that you can handle yourself. Don't make unreasonable demands on others, don't make it difficult for others, and don't harm the interests of others. When others help you, you must be grateful. There is an old saying that "reciprocity is the best way". No one wants to be bothered all the time. You help me once, and I help you again. Only by helping each other and exchanging hearts can we become true friends.

I have heard such a saying: "If you are willing to hold an umbrella for others, others will be willing to hold an umbrella for you. Everyone has a rainy day without an umbrella. If you can help others block the rain, this is also a wonderful way for me to not get wet even if I don't bring an umbrella when it rains." Learn to "trouble" others appropriately and at the right time, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results, so as to achieve twice the result with half the effort.
